The force of nature..

The power of the environment always amazes me. I recently moved from Cambridgeshire to Chesterfield and boy what a difference it's made. Although having grown up in Cambridgeshire and therefore familiar with it's flat landscape and fenland habitats I didn't realise quite the impact it would have on me. It was only having 'escaped' and returned to the hills did it begin to set in.

The best way to describe it is like a sense of relief. Relief that rushes over your body and the feeling of returning home. Being surrounded by rolling hills, woodlands and fields with hedgerows and dry stone walls instantly makes me feel better. I'd feel this briefly when visiting the Lake District only later having to return to the south and leave that feeling behind. Now though that feeling stays with me.

I know many people who love Cambridgeshire and East Anglia. Its big skies, amazing sunsets and fens are unique. I get why some people love it, there are no hills to struggle with and there's a lot less rain than some parts of the country. That said, it's just not me.

That feeling of relief still washes over me whenever I pop into the peaks. I want to explore, breath the fresh air and go places I've never been. Frankly I hope it never goes away.

The start of something new...

Whilst writing a piece for another blog, I started thinking. Thinking about writing and recording the impact that nature and the environment has on us. The time I spend working with children in the outdoors and about my own personal time I spend utilising the outdoors around me to complete challenges I've set myself.

When not spending time in the outdoors itself, I sit staring at it from my desk. Don't get me wrong I like to watch telly, spend time on the internet and do things that are bad for me. Nothing however is as enjoyable and exhilarating as being out in the wild, experiencing the elements and pushing my body to it's limit.

Through this blog I hope to share experiences with nature, the environment and the outdoors, give people something to read about and potentially inspire people to get outside themselves.
